Spring Break March 14-20, 2021

The first part of Spring Break was more business than play.  Tyler had an eye dr. appointments and got contacts, Tyler and Kaylee had orthodontist appointments and Chris had a well check up visit.  He had to get 3 vaccines and some blood drawn for some basic lab work.  He did a great job with with his shots, but when he was getting his blood work done Chris has a hard time.  He basically passed out and the technician had use some smelling salts to get him to wake up.  I was nervous there for a few moments, but he got feeling better quickly and was fine the rest of the day.

I baked twice during the week (Tuesday and Wednesday, muffins and bread).  No one signed up for Friday and I was glad that I didn't have to make anything since my day ended up being busy.

The girls suddenly got into Star Wars this week and we watched episodes 1-5 during the week.  It was fun to watch some of movies with them.

My mom drove out to her mission this week.  I was supposed to fly out and help her, but due to a big storm we decided it would be best for her to drive out after the storm.  So she left on Tuesday and made it to Missouri on Friday.  I'm glad that the roads were better and that my Aunt Julie was able to go with her.

Thursday was our big event day.  We did a day trip to Galveston and did 4 activities there.  We went to a Naval museum, an oil rig museum, a railroad museum, and then we went on a dolphin tour.

It was a sunny day, but cooler and very windy.  We left early (7:00 am) and got to the Naval museum at 9:00.  We were the first ones there and had the boats to ourselves basically which was nice.  The inside of the submarine was pretty cool.  It was amazing to think about how important all of the valves and piping were and how it all worked.

The battleship was fun, but not as impressive as the Battleship Texas which we have been to a couple of times.

We played at the park for a few minutes until we all got too cold.
We took a break from the wind and stopped at a Target.  We ate our packed lunches in the car.

Next we went to the Ocean Star Oil Rig Museum.  It was interesting to learn more about the drilling process and see some models of the different rigs that they use.

Drill bits: Doug had fun explaining his role in the drilling process and explained some of the exhibits dealing with fracking.

We had parked by the oil rig and had to pay for the day, so we walked to the railroad museum.  It was about 1/2 mile away and the kids were pretty good sports about walking though by the end of the day they started to complain a bit.  The girls enjoyed the trains the most and had fun dinging the bell and sitting in the engines.  The dining and sleeping cars were neat.

We were all pretty tired after looking at all of the trains and walking around all day.  We camped out in the train station for awhile to rest our legs.
Our last activity was scheduled for 5:00.  We were done with all of our activities by 3:30 so we just had to wait around for awhile.  Our dolphin tour was super fun.  We had some funny tour guides and the Shurtliffs joined us so that was fun to visit with them.  The water was pretty choppy since it was still windy, but it was still fun to be on the water.  We saw quite a few dolphins.   They were swimming together in groups and playing.

After the boat ride we went to Chick-fil-a to eat dinner. It took us awhile to figure out where we wanted to go considering location, crowds, and picky eaters.  We were lucky to grab two tables outside so that we could sit down.  We had a fun day at Galveston.
Kaylee however, did not enjoy the end of the day as much.  She said that she wasn't feeling well after the boat ride and she sat in the middle of the van to hopefully help her feel better.  But when she got home she said that she felt worse.  I helped her take a quick bath and she felt better after she finally threw up.  Poor girl.  She slept fine and was better in the morning.  Chris  got up in the night saying he felt sick, but he went back to bed ok - though it took me awhile to fall back to sleep.  Guess we all just had too much excitement in one day and it through it out of our groove.

Friday the girls got a hair cut, Jenna went pretty short - it turned out great.

We watched our neighbors hamster over the weekend and the girls had fun when we put it in its ball.
Friday night we participated in an online zoom magic performance with Justin Willman. It was a lot of fun.

Saturday the boys and I did some yard work service for a sister in the ward.  Damon and I did some practice driving.  And I was able to finish going through the girls' room, getting rid of toys and clothes.  I also went to the store and gave Tyler a haircut.  We are always busy.

The girls had fun doing their hair for Sunday.  We had a nice FHE, Damon gave a nice lesson on keeping the Sabbath Day holy.  I was able to go to Relief Society in person at the church, with masks.  It's crazy to think that COVID has been around for a year now.

Our HOA hosted some free food events during spring break.  We stopped by the park and picked up lunch: hamburgers or potato bar.
It was the perfect day outside on Sunday so we had to go walk around the lake.  We played our family version of Frisbee golf as we walked around.
