A conversation that needs to be remembered

So as we're about to leave Logan, Damon pipes up in the truck and says:

"Let's look for California Gulls!"
I say: "California Gulls huh? What other kind of Gulls are there?"
Damon: "Franklin Gulls."
Me: "And what is the difference between the two?"
Damon: "California Gulls have white heads, and Franklin Gulls have black heads."

Doug and I are then genuinely surprised and pleased that grandpa has been teaching our sons about the "seagulls" in Cache Valley. Thanks dad!

Anniversary Get Away

So, we are going to celebrate our 10th anniversary this year (August 9). You may be wondering why we celebrated it early. Well, the idea was to hopefully go to a Jazz Playoff Game, but as you know (if you follow sports at all) that the Jazz didn't make it to the Playoffs this year - no Jerry Sloan and no Deron Williams. Anyway, we still had everything planned and we did lots of other fun things. It was also a good time since Damon was out of school for Spring Break.

So on Wed. April 20 we met my parents in SLC and they took the boys and dropped them off at Doug's sister Wendy for the night and the next day. Then they watched them for the rest of the weekend.

Meanwhile, Doug and I had a great time by ourselves enjoying each other's company.

Our first night we spent at the Stillwater Lodge at Heber. I was lucky to see a Groupon for a night's stay here, so we were able to get it for half off. It was rainy, but it stopped long enough for us to enjoy some time in the outdoor hot tub.

Thursday: we went to Park City and got some birthday stuff for Damon and Tyler then we checked in to our hotel in SLC: the Howard Johnson. Not the fanciest place, but it was actually bigger than the one in Heber and had a King size bed.

Then we went to the SLC Temple and did a session with family names. This was my third time going the SLC Temple, I really like to see it live. Afterwords we went and ate at the Roof. This has been something I have always wanted to do. It's a bit pricey, but I thought it was worth it. the view was beautiful and they had a live pianist playing all of my favorite songs from Phantom, Les Miserables, and other classics.

Friday: We drove up to Snowbird and rode the tram. It was a great view, but very cold. It was very very windy at the top. We didn't stay long - enough to take some pictures. It was cool to see the skiers going down the mountain. Even I, growing up in the mountains, was impressed by the vast and rugged landscape.

In the afternoon we had a nap :) then went to the Clark Planetarium and saw an Imax show about Chimpanzees and Elephants. Then we ate dinner at the Lion House Pantry. After that we went to a show called: "Pirates of the Carabiner." It was put on by the Off Broadway Theatre - they are a company that do comedy shows that are spoofs on things. So you could probably guess that this was a spoof on the show "Pirates of the Carribean." It was funny and pretty well done for this type of production.Saturday: We went to a tour of Red Butte Gardens and learned a lot about Daffodils. I thought this was going to be just a general tour of the place, but it was really a detailed lecture of the 4 main types of Daffodils and at least 14 specific varieties. I will never look at Daffodils the same way again. - a side note about our trip. It really would have been more enjoyable if the weather would have been warmer. We were so cold on our garden tour, and just walking around downtown SLC. Just kind of a bummer that it was so cold, at least it didn't really rain on us.

After the garden we had lunch then went to the Tracy Aviary. We saw a Vulture bird show that was pretty short, but we enjoyed seeing the other birds there. We even saw a Peacock show his feathers for us.

We were going to go see a Bee's Game, but we were tired of being out in the cold weather so we went to the movies instead. We saw Water for Elephants. I had read the book and we had seen a clip on TV about how they made it so we were intrigued. It was good and well acted.Sunday: We went to Music and the Spoken Word at the Tabernacle. President Monson happened to be there, probably because it was Easter Sunday. It was a lovely program, with a full house. Then we left to go to Smithfield and pick up the kids. We went to mom's church to help out, but found out that their church was almost over. I thought they had church at 11, but it was really at 9 am. So then we spent Sunday with my parents and celebrated Easter and my Dad's birthday.

Monday: We just did some quick shopping in Logan. I needed some things for a wedding cake that I was doing soon, and Doug picked out some suits at Mr. Mac.

It was a great vacation. I needed the break and the quality time with Doug. I love my boys so much, but sometimes I need some away time to appreciate them more.

Easter Eggs

So I colored eggs with Damon and Tyler a week early since the boys will be spending Easter weekend with my parents. I only cooked 11 eggs, so it went fairly fast. Tyler liked dyeing his eggs orange, and Damon thought that the two-toned eggs were cool with his name written with a white crayon.

Damon actually ate one - he liked the yolk part the best.
Chris is making "train soup."
He's learning to be super cheesy.

Tyler's Blanket

All of my boys have been attached to their blankets. Tyler it seems has been the most, but I wonder if Chris will be the same. This blanket has been so loved, and it provides instant comfort to Tyler, which is nice. When he gets a scratch or gets hurt he doesn't want a band-aid, his response usually is: "My blanket will make it feel better." And then proceeds to wrap it with his blanket.

So having been washed at least weekly and loved daily for 4 years - this is what it looked like last week.
I've cut off strips before to fix holse, but these have been the largest. The blanket started out at a normal 36 x 36 inches, now it is 24 x 29 inches. There are holes starting in the middle now too - it is thread bare. So we've talked to Tyler about getting a new blanket and he seems ok with the idea, but I have a feeling he will be very sad when this blanket has to go.

Chris and Damon

So I've been wanting to do a comparison Blog for awhile- so here you go. First are some pictures of Damon in the 13-17 month age.
Once we only had these cars, if you know us you know we have lots more now!

Now here are some of Christopher:

Here's one of Tyler just for fun, to me he seems to have his own look.
Anyway, I think they look like brothers.

Conference Weekend

So here are a few pictures of random stuff around Conference Weekend.

Doug and the boys made a beaver dam in our dog kennel - the boys love playing in that dirt.

Damon and Tyler played pretty well with these 'Tile' games during the saturday session so I could listen pretty well. My three sons:

I only made soup, rolls and muffins, but it sure made a big mess:

Bye-Bye Cassette tapes

While I was at my mom's we figured out a way to record cassette tapes to a computer. So I've been taking all my old tapes and recording them onto the computer and then burning the ones I want CDs of. It's great to have that music again. It takes awhile and I have a shoe box full left to do, but it's all good.

(download a program called Audacity- it's not the best at being user friendly, use the help or email me if you want any of my tips).

Doug's work

I should put in a note that Doug spent 2 weeks in Houston in March for training. He loved it there and wants to work there at some point to get more experience and see what area of Halliburton he would like to pursue.

I went up to Logan one of the weekends he was gone and got to visit with extended family at the big March Birthday Celebration at my Grandma's. Also Annie was visiting from California with her baby Ian, so that was fun to see everyone and have some help while Doug was gone.

Doug's flight home had to go back to Denver because the visibility was so poor here in Vernal, so he was bummed that he had to spend an extra day in Denver, mostly at the airport. We were very happy when he came home. The boys missed their daddy.

Warmer Weather

The last two days it's been so nice outside, hot even. The sand and water table has become a fun toy again. Christopher discovered the water tub and had lots of fun splashing, we gave him a bath afterwords. I love my boys, especially when they are outside playing nicely.
Damon loves to squirt the ants.

Look a rock!

Damon Lost his First Tooth

Well, Damon lost his first tooth on Wednesday night (March 31). He was so excited about it. Even more excited when the tooth fairy left him a dollar under his pillow. He told his teacher Mrs. Cundall about it the next day and all his friends at school and his friends in the neighborhood. He's growing up I guess, wow.

More Pictures

Some other fun shots:

a cute one of ChrisDamon's class is focusing on counting to 20 right now and knowing how to write the numbers too. They count to 100 everyday, but I guess some are still struggling. So his homework was to get some counters (Cheerios) and count out 1-20 to match the cards. Damon had fun doing it, and eating it too. Playing with Blockus

We bought Hungry Hungy Hippos after Christmas and had it in the closet. We decided to open it up the other day and everyone had fun.

Jedi Training

Our library put on a Jedi Training day for the community. They have a Fancy Nancy Tea Party every year, so this year, they decided to do something for the boys - even though girls came too. The boys had a lot of fun. They of course loved the Light Sabers and were pretty good about not hitting anyone. They had an obstacle course for them to improve their Jedi Skills and they had Wookie Cookies and Yoda Soda for refreshments. Chris had fun watching.
