Holiday Trip part 1

So our trip back to Utah started first thing on Thursday December 27th, we decided to wait one more day to leave for weather reasons and so we wouldn't have to be packing on Christmas day.  We left around 8:15 am and arrived in Cache Valley around 6:00 pm.  We made 3 stops and the kids over all did pretty well.  The girls were great, it was Chris that had the hardest time.

We stayed our first three nights at Doug's parents house (actually they are living at Doug's Aunt and Uncle's house right now).  They are working on building a house now that they are back from their mission.  We enjoyed visiting and the boys had fun sledding on the hill that is by the side of the house.

Friday we did a few errands in Logan - visiting stores that we can't find in Denver (Gossner's Cheese and Kitchen Kneads). We stopped by my grandma's house and had lunch there.
Saturday was the Petersen Christmas Party.  Our family was in charge this year.  We gathered around 2:00, played games, played in the snow, and had Cafe Rio pulled pork salad for dinner.  We had a short program including some family songs.  Everyone enjoyed seeing the girls especially Candice.

Evan adjusted Kaylee, hoping she can hold her head up better now.

We were rocking with Kaylee and Jenna to some fun music.

I guess you noticed my new haircut from Brenda
The party was a success! Good food, fun and family.  Sunday we went to my home ward (Nibley 2nd) for Sacrament meeting.  It was fun to see a few of the families I grew up with.  Then we packed up to head to Bear Lake for the Datwyler Family Reunion.

Family Letter 2012

I decided to Blog our Christmas Letter this year, so then I will have a copy of it as well.  I have had this written for awhile, but it just took be a bit longer to get it onto the blog, but better late than never.

Merry Christmas 2012
Well, I feel that we have communicated with friends and family this year more than others, so our yearly review won’t be much of a surprise for some.  This is a quick review of what’s been keeping us busy this year:

January 17th: found out we were having twin girls – that was a crazy day, spent over 3 hours on the phone telling everyone.  “No way! You’re kidding!  Are you serious?!” were common responses.
February: Kept busy getting things ready for the girls – sewing blessing dresses, finding bedding, etc.

March: Doug gets a promotion and starts his new job in the Brighton office of Halliburton.  He finds us a new house in 2 weeks and takes care of all the hassles of buying and selling a house and the stresses of a new job (in the middle of an audit to boot).

April 18th: I get LifeFlighted out to the U of U hospital due to pre-term labor, thus adding to our craziness.

May 2nd: Jenna Ann and Kaylee Beth are born at 2:40 am.  They spend 20 days in the NICU and about 3 months on oxygen.

May 9th:  We move into our house.  With the ward’s and my mom’s help we slowly start to get settled in Firestone Colorado.

June – July: We try to juggle our lives with twins – days filled with feedings with brief pauses in between. The boys love having more room to play in our new house and having our own swing-set outside.

August 15th: We dare make our first trip as a family of 7 back to Utah.  It takes 10 hours with 3 stops/feedings.  We are very grateful and tired when we arrive at my parent’s house in Smithfield.

September: We make our first trip down to Denver and experience a Hammond’s Candy tour and visit the Firefighter’s Museum.  Later we make a trip to the Lego Store, a thrill for the boys.  Girls start sleeping through the night!

October 31st: Doug strolls the streets with our team of Lego Ninja warriors: Kai, Zane, and mini-Zane.  I stay at home with our two little flowers.

November: Thanksgiving is spent hosting a neighbor family and we enjoy good food and company.  We even managed to play a new game called Dominion which was very enjoyable.

December: Spent lots of time shopping online – trips to the store are few these days.  Love the great deals and free shipping.  There are lots of late nights getting things done and updating our basement.

In general our lives are so full of things to do we wonder if we will ever get our “to do” lists completely checked off again – but live is good.  The girls are healthy and so much fun.  They boys are full of energy and are asked to visit the basement often to relieve some of it.  Doug had a brief stint as an Elders Quorum instructor but is now teaching in the Primary (9 year olds) and I am on the Enrichment Committee.  Damon (7 ½) and Tyler (5 ½) enjoy school and their teachers.  Damon did a patriotic program with the 2nd grade and Tyler is already reading very well in Kindergarten.  Christopher (3) loves cars almost as much as Damon did and is rarely seen without at least 3 cars in hand.

We have been so blessed and have seen Heavenly Father’s hand in our lives so much this year.  It has been a whirl-wind but so many things have worked out just right that I know that we have been looked after.  Thank you all for your support and prayers throughout the year, we have such a great group of friends and family.  We hope you are well and that you can feel our Savior’s love for you in this upcoming year.
Merry Christmas –

Christmas 2012

It was a fun Christmas this year.  I fed the girls early, around 6:00 so we could all be ready to open presents together.  We went down to the tree around 6:40 am.

It was a Lego Ninjago Christmas, Damon and Tyler got cool sets and they got some new mini-figure spinners that they played with all day.

Chris got some Bob the Builder cars and a Zip Track, but he liked playing with the Ninjago toys as well.

Tyler is a really good builder and did his whole set by himself.
Ninja-Go!

We got the family a bouncy house to have in the basement.  Pretty fun! The boys weren't done with their Legos, so they bounced for a bit but then wanted to go upstairs and finish their sets.  They love Legos.
Kai Blade Cycle (we already had this set), Cole's Tread Assault, and the Ultra Sonic Raider

Here are our main gifts lined up - mostly so I can remember what everyone got.  I got a bunch of stuff for the kitchen, toaster, rice cooker, Kitchen Aid paddle, and kitchen scale.  Plus a movie and some clothes - thanks Doug and parents.
Damon got the Ninjago Lego set, Gearopolis, clothes, some books, Lloyd ZX spinner, and some Star Wars figures.
Tyler got the Ninjago Lego set, Batman Wii game, clothes, books, Kai spinner, and some Star Wars figures, they got this Ninjago game as a family present too.
Chris got the Zip Track, Bob the Builder cars, clothes, books, Thomas Aquarium cars, and a Chokun spinner.
Jenna and Kaylee got mostly clothes, with a few books and a couple of new toys and a cute monkey comfort blanket doll.
Doug put his things away before I could take a picture, but he got a remote control helicopter, some slippers, a tie, and new jump drive, and a subscription to a sports magazine.  He will also get some clothes too when he goes shopping for them.

It was nice to just stay home and enjoy the kids.  We decided to leave for our trip to Utah a day later so we wouldn't have to pack on Christmas.  I'm glad we did because it was nice to take a day off to just be together as a family.  The kids played well with their new toys and we enjoyed the time together.  Merry Christmas!

Girls and Gingerbread

 Two cute girls:

I liked this way of making a gingerbread creation.  The boys had fun putting on each layer and we used a skewer to help hold the top part in place.

Projects and Pictures

I tried a new Chocolate Cake recipe from Food Network (Alton Brown).  The cake was pretty good, a little bit dry - I want to try it again with my new kitchen scale that I am getting for Christmas since all the measurements were in weights.  The frosting was awesome though, my new favorite chocolate butter-cream. (You should try this for decorating - cut out a snowflake out of wax paper and dust with powdered sugar then carefully remove - easy and cool looking)

A new hobby that I want to develop is drawing Zentangles.  They are a lot of fun and something that I like to do: follow patterns. You just fill in a space with cool designs - look it up online if you are curious about it.  I even checked out a book from the library that showed a bunch of patterns to follow.

We attempted some pictures of the kids:

The holiday season is keeping us busy, but really life just seems normal.  We just kind of do our same routine every day.  Mostly consisting of keeping everyone in the family fed, bottles and dishes washed, clothes clean, and house picked up.

We are trying to get the basement more kid friendly.  We got some carpet from a family in the ward and we are in the process of painting the cement walls.  And we added some big fluorescent lights which really has helped brighten things up down there.  I also want to make a built-in race track under the stairs.  Should be nice when it is all done.
