Doug's Moab Trip

So Doug hooked up with a bunch of guys and went on a mountain bike trip to Moab.  They left Thursday May 1 and came back a few days later on Saturday.  Doug said the trip had some pretty technical trails and it was non-stop riding.  He had a good time though.  They did a bunch of trails including: Barlett Wash, Jedi, Klonzo, and the UPS and LPS sections of Porcupine Rim (truck shuttles involved).

The riders had some minor crashes throughout their trip.  The first one for Doug wasn't too bad, just some scrapes and the end bar on his handle bar bent off as his front tire stuck in the sand at the bottom of some slickrock.  The next day he took a pretty bad fall on Porcupine Rim.  He was trying to ride between a bush and a rock and he thinks his handle bar got caught on the bush or something, but he took a good tumble and landed on a rock.  He got bruised up and got a nice cut on his leg.  The plan was to come home Saturday afternoon after riding in Grand Junction on the way back, but he actually ended up coming home in the morning because another friend was pretty sick and Doug was feeling sore as well.  Even though he got some RBO's (really bad owies) he still says that he had a good time and can't wait until next year.
The picture doesn't do it justice.  The bruise is so dark and purple - it looks terrible.  Poor Doug :(
The cut is pretty deep.  One of the bikers who went with is conveniently a nurse practitioner who works in the ER.  He told Doug that if he had shown up in his clinic he would have put in some stitches, but he said that he would be okay without - just have a nice scar to show off later.
